"Help someone. Not for the reward, but for the sake of changing a life."
The above quote resonated with me because it truly took a team effort to help me accomplish a goal of mine that positively changed my life!
Ever since I watched the movie, Finding Nemo, over 20 years ago....I wanted to swim in the ocean with a sea turtle. Well, WE did it. I say WE because their were so many people who stepped up to help me meet the real life, "Crush" (which is the name of the sea turtle in the movie)!
Alyssa and I were on our honeymoon in Aruba and through research, I learned of a place where I could potentially see one (or more) turtles!
The big obstacle....to have a chance to see a turtle(s), I had to swim at least 100 yards from shore, out into the big ocean, to the location of sea grass where the turtles have been spotted. The distance, and fear of what is in the clear blue ocean, scared me a little...
A big shout-out to:
My wife and her willingness to wake up at 6am, encouragement, and confidence she instilled in me
All of the people who created videos and articles about this specific location
The hotel staff for helping arrange a taxi at 7am and the taxi driver
The little kids that swam in that gave me confidence that I could do it
The nice man that swam from shore (this was extremely helpful)
The place that let me borrow a life jacket
My sister for being the fearless person she is and her voice was in my head saying I could do it even though she wasn't there with me physically
A nice lady in a pool noodle who pointed to where turtles were when I was out in the ocean
The woman that shared a video of a turtle she saw (screenshot above)
Helping others is something that we can all do and I am so grateful for the turtle team!!
Thank you for reading and please feel free to reach out if I can help in anyway!
Sending positive vibes,
Dan
